Our trip to Canada’s Capital

Matt and I were invited to a wedding in Plantagenet at the Bean Town Ranch which is 40 mins east of Ottawa so we decided to make a weekend out of it and go with our good friends Lisa and Jeff over the Victoria Day weekend. I had never been to Ottawa… I know, I know. I’m not sure how I missed the grade school trip to Ottawa or what happened but at 29 years old this was my 1st trip! Ottawa was beautiful! I was really looking forward to 2 things – 1. The Canadian Tulip Festival 2. Poutine. Since it warmed up early this year I was only able to catch the last bit of the Tulips but we definitely didn’t miss out on the poutine. We went to the Elgin Street Diner. It was recommended by some of our good friends and was also featured on Food Network’s You Gotta Eat Here.  Matt got the Smoked Meat Poutine after our server recommended it and it was delicious! Definitely try it out if you are in the area.

We stayed at ARC The Hotel based on another friend’s recommendation and we were really happy. It was a cool boutique hotel minutes from the parliament building and the Rideau Canal. It was only $109 for the night on a long weekend! Pretty sweet. It was also named as one of the trendiest hotels in Canada for 2012 by Trip Advisor. We would highly recommend the hotel.
